Live Music, Concerts – Fort Erie, Ridgeway, Crystal Beach, Niagara ON … June 22, 2013 … Sessions On The River presents Express and Company. As a touring band with songwriter Dylan Ireland, Melissa Payne on Fiddle, Joe Hay on Drums, Liam Wilson on Bass and multi-instrumentalist Benj Rowland, they have played over 200 shows including the Mariposa Folk Festival and South by Southwest.

Enchanting audiences with electric, energetic concerts and playing alongside bands such as The Sadies, Whitehorse, Jenn Grant and Greg Keelor have allowed a true, organic sound to develop. As well, performances as a duo have allowed Dylan and Melissa to present their songs in a more intimate and theatrical manner. Dylan keeps the beat with his bass drum while also delivering on his vocal and guitar duties, while Melissa completes the experience with fiddle, rhythm guitar and harmonies.

Their self-titled EP, which embraces sounds of traditional Canadian roots rock, has been in rotation on over 125 stations across North America, and featured on CBC’s Fresh Air and Vinyl Cafe. Since her graduation from university where she studied jazz and contemporary music, Candice Sand has built a solid career for herself as a Pop/R&B songwriter and recording artist.

Most recently, she has teamed up with the Grammy nominated multiplatinum production and writing team Kuya Productions Inc (know best for their work with Canadian R&B artist JRDN). Together, they have been busy in the studio writing and recording new singles that will give you a sneak peek from her new album, scheduled for release later in 2013.

Live Music, Concerts – Fort Erie, Ridgeway, Crystal Beach, Niagara ON … July 8, 2013 … The Sanctuary Centre for the Arts presents Family of the Year. An American indie band from Los Angeles, they’ve been pegged by MTV as an artist to watch! Their single, “Hero”, hit #14 on the Billboard chart. And they’ve performed live on Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel.

Together since 2009, Family of the Year has accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. In addition to their first Ep, Songbook, the band has issued a pair of EPs on its own Washashore Records imprint – 2009’s Where’s The Sun, 2010’s Through The Trees – as well as 2011’s St. Croix, all of which have generated glowing reviews from NME, BBC, IFC, Rolling Stone and Spin.

Now the group is preparing for its busiest schedule yet, with shows and tours being planned around their most recent release, the full-length Loma Vista.

Live Music, Concerts – Fort Erie, Ridgeway, Crystal Beach, Niagara ON … July 20, 2013 … Sessions On The River presents the Will Coke Band. From the Toronto area, the band features a mix of acoustic and electronic alt-pop built around sincere emotional lyrics.

The band’s recent EP, Unknown, is a mix of acoustic instruments and electronic sounds tied together with guitar and soft, sincere vocals. There is a dark quality to Will’s music, which he addresses by saying, “Our music is, at its basis, sad. Any beauty we hope to achieve by it should come from its striving away from that sadness. If we succeed, that melancholy origin shouldn’t have any bearing on the final product. If there is still sadness, the hope is for a transformative exploration of that feeling to uplift, inspire, and relieve.”

Trailside presents “TurnAround” – June 22/13

The Blues (add one tsp) … A song often of lamentation characterized by usually 12-bar phrases, 3-line stanzas in which the words of the second line usually repeat those of the first … secular music form incorporating a repeating harmonic structure … the specific origins of the blues are not known but elements of the music of former slaves include the syncopated rhythms of spirituals and work songs.

Funk (add a generous dollop) … Defined as a music genre having originated in the mid-Sixties when soul, jazz, and R&B all came together to form a rhythmic danceable new form of music.

Trailside presents “TurnAround” – June 22/13

Jazz (sprinkle a dash or two) … American music developed from ragtime and blues and characterized by propulsive syncopated rhythms, polyphonic ensemble playing, varying degrees of improvisation, and often deliberate distortions of pitch and timbre.

Crazy (add a handful) … Affected with madness or insanity, possessed by enthusiasm or excitement, out of the ordinary and unexpected, slightly off or even a bit weird.

Now take all of these ingredients, mix ‘em up in great big bowl of Classic Rock and presto – there you have it – “TurnAround”, a band that promises a heaping helping of Bluesy Jazzy Funky Crazy Classic Rock & Roll all in one fantastic night of live music in Downtown Ridgeway!

This Wednesday evening, Broken Van Productions wants to thank all their friends and family with a FREE SHOW starring Michael Bernard Fitzgerald and Port Colborne’s Chris Madronich. The show takes place from 8:00pm – 11:30pm at the Sanctuary Centre for the Arts in Downtown Ridgeway and is suitable for all ages. First off, New Country rising star Chelsea Crites announced she’ll be appearing at the 6th Annual Niagara Music Awards on July 23rd. This is an impressive breakthrough for Chelsea who has really created a name for herself over the past couple of years with numerous appearances at festivals and concerts (including her recent solo performance at Hamilton Place), as well as on radio and tv (and Trailside of course). Also this week, Fenian Raid announced they’ll officially release their new cd, “Acoustic Shadows” before a hometown crowd June 21st at the Sanctuary Centre for the Arts in Ridgeway. The hugs and handshakes, sound of laughter, young parents comparing newborn babies as they traded tips and snapshots – it was a marvel to watch. Maybe I’m just feeling a little more sentimental these days but if there’s one thing I’ve picked up on since we moved to Ridgeway it’s the strong sense of family that seems to define Fort Erie. Be it siblings & parents, co-workers, teammates or friends – these ties that bind us together as a family in whatever form it takes are truly a blessing to be treasured. From the day we first opened Trailside – we’ve met countless people who’ve told us how they hadn’t been in here in 20-25 years, not since the days of the old McLeod Hotel. We’ve heard stories of how people first met, broke up, made up, fell in love, overindulged, fought and shook hands, made up again, and so on. We’ve also heard about great bands and how the McLeod was the place to go. So, we thought it might be kinda fun to try and stitch some of these experiences together into something more tangible, perhaps tying together then and now with a short story on your memories and how they relate to Trailside today. Maybe we’ll have enough material for a best selling novel – maybe just enough for a newspaper article, but in either case, I’m certain we’ll have a few good tales to relay. Even tried making snow angels in the parking lot but learned the hard way you need a little more snow first. Claude has performed at the Air Canada Centre, Garden Brothers Circus, the Canadian Exhibition in Ottawa, the Western Fair in London Ont, headlined at the Sheraton on the Falls Conference Centre in Niagara Falls, and appeared on numerous television shows.  He’s also visited over 7000 elementary schools and 1800 high schools. In addition to  promoting the art of magic and the importance of following your dreams, Claude has helped non profit organizations in Ontario raise over $4 million. Saturday we play host to Singles Night presented by Plenty of Fish with mixing, mingling, and live music from Jeff Lindner & A Whole Lotta Blues Band. This event is open to all 19 & over. Sunday, we’ll have all the games cranked up. And Monday, well Monday we’re going to take a breather and shut ‘er down for the day for a little family time and an extra helping of turkey. And although we normally close Monday – we’ve decided to shake things up a bit and will now be open especially for Monday Night Football. •  Ridgeway Ont - Trailside Bar And Grill News (July 9/12) … Just want to say thank you from all of us here at Trailside for your tremendous support this past weekend as we took part in our first ever Ridgeway Summer Festival. We really weren’t sure what to expect so we kinda had to wing it – but then again, that’s more or less how we do things around here. The response was far beyond our expectations – the bbq street eats were a huge hit (especially the Philly Cheese Steak on a bun), Saucy Jack rocked out to a full house, the Molson Girls were here handing out samples of the new Coors Light Ice Tea, and we officially kicked off our ‘Buckets of Corona’ promotion. Not bad for one weekend eh. So if you’re in this week and the staff have that glazed eye look, it’s only because they’re all still a bit shell shocked and wondering what the heck just happened.  Thanks to John and the crew back in the kitchen for keeping it together, Jen and Kristal behind the bar, our amazing servers who somehow always manage to keep smiling, Josh, Steve, & Grandma Marlene for looking after the bbq in the sweltering heat, and most importantly, you for making us feel so at home. •  Ridgeway Ont - Trailside Bar and Grill News (June 14/12) … Burger Update! We’ve been asked about these new burgers we’ll soon be adding to the menu. The taste testing continues but here’s what I’ve been authorized to tell you. Jalapenos, spicy chipotle drizzle, and batter have found their way into one recipe. As to the other, don’t get me started on the ‘Dirty Matt’ – it’s gonna be nasty!

•  Ridgeway Ont - Trailside Bar and Grill News (June 13/12) … Things are starting to heat up around here as we get into some more live music. Friday evening, Rock n Roll Reggie Storm takes control of the patio, and on Saturday night at 10:00 Southern Duo will be here with some unplugged classic southern rock.  Speaking of music, RidgeFest is just around the corner so we’ve hooked up with Saucy Jack to see if we can’t take it up a notch. •  Ridgeway Ont - Trailside Bar and Grill News (June 11/12) … Some of the things we’re working on this week.  Just trying to find time to post up the menu on our website – we’ll try and get that done soon. Also, as if our burgers weren’t good enough, we’re testing out some new variations.  It’s a time consuming process that usually involves a pint or three of Creemore so we’re taking our time.  Oh, and can’t forget – it’s Sue’s birthday on Sunday. Don’t be shy about wishing her a happy birthday – she loves the attention. About the age thing though, you might want to avoid that topic – it’s a delicate subject.

Having decided it was a beauty day to hop in the Mustang convertible for a trip down the QE to visit Trailside, they’ve now decided they too, want to live in Ridgeway. There’s just something about this town!

•  Ridgeway Ont - Trailside Bar and Grill News (June 8/12) … How’s this for a sports fan’s weekend; Montreal Grand Prix, Belmont Stakes, Euro 2012, NASCAR, Blue Jays, and of course, Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday. We’re going to have to hire someone just to man the remotes. Your favourite sport, a cold draft – seriously, if it got any better than this I’m not sure I could handle it.

Well, all the wedding decorations are put away, the tux has been returned, the updo is back down, and it’s business as usual. We’ll have Dodgeball tonight at Crystal Ridge if you’re feeling brave, Men’s Ball Hockey on Wednesday, Karaoke Thursday, and we’ll kick off the weekend with Fish Fry Fryday. •  Trailside Bar and Grill News – Ridgeway Ont (June 1/12) … What better way to kick off the month of June than with Fish Fry Fryday – 2pcs in our homemade light & crispy Creemore batter for only $9.99! Is that thunder or is it just the sound of my stomach rumbling?  Tomorrow features the 1st Annual Ridgeway Reads Literary Festival.  Saturday also marks a new beginning for Trisha & Matt as they make it official and exchange I Do’s here in Ridgeway.  Seeing as we’re holding the reception at Trailside (it’s kinda cool owning your own bar) we’ll need to be closed for the day. •  Ridgeway Ont - Trailside Bar and Grill News (May 28/12) … We have a full week lined up here at Trailside.  Tuesday it’s Dodgeball, Free Pool, and 65¢ Chicken Wings from 2-5pm and 9-11pm.  Wednesday it’s Men’s Ball Hockey, Free Pool, and 65¢ Chicken Wings from 2-5pm and 9-11pm.  Thursday we’ll do our best to get an early start on the weekend with Karaoke.  Friday is of course, Fish Fry Fryday.  And Saturday, well Saturday we’ll be closed for Trisha & Matt’s wedding.  We’ll be open Sunday though, maybe a little bleary eyed and a bit slow on the uptake – but we’ll be open. •  Ridgeway Ont - Trailside Bar and Grill News (May 21/12) … Here’s a look at some of the events we’ve put together for this week.  Well, as promised, here we go with Round 2 of the Trailside Dodgeball Tournament. Test out your reflexes and survival skills this Tuesday from 7-9pm at the Crystal Ridge Community Centre. Admission is only $3 and the tournament is open to both men and women.  A couple of events are set up for Wednesday; our Trailside Open Pool Tournament starts at 8pm and is open to all, and Men’s Ball Hockey Night at the Crystal Ridge Community Centre where the fun gets underway at 8:15pm.  If you’d like to participate – give us a shout here at Trailside (289-876-8000) or pop in anytime.  Thursday Night will, of course, feature Karaoke.  We’ll wrap up the work week with Fish Fry Fryday.  And, as far as Saturday goes – not sure yet – we’re still working on it but I’m sure it’ll be something good.  Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates @ www.facebook.com/TrailsideBarAndGrill.

•  Ridgeway Ont - Trailside Bar and Grill News (May 16/12) … Got together for an impromptu Dodgeball Tournament last night at the arena.  What a hoot!  Dodgeball you say?  Sure why not I say.  Everybody agreed there needs to be Round 2 so we’ll probably do it again next week.  If you would like to take part – just let us know.  Coming up this week at Trailside; tonight we’ll be hosting our first pool tournament, Thursday is Karaoke Night where you’ll get to amaze your friends and neighbours with yet another one of your many hidden talents, then it’s our ever more popular Fish Fry Fryday where you can hang out with friends until the wee hours, and DJ Adrian winds up the Victrola once again on Saturday for a great night of music and dance.  We do love our weekends here at Trailside!

Local vendors will be on-site in the municipal parking lot with an array of farm fresh produce, artisan breads, cheeses, flowers, and more.  The market runs from 7am-1pm each Saturday until mid-October.
